This project arose from a class called "Topics in Printmaking: Alternative Delivery Systems." We looked at issues around audience and context, and the class learned techniques such as silkscreen printing in service of projects. In addition to these shopping bags, the students designed and printed posters (which included tear-off itineraries of when/where the gallery would stop), hats and tee-shirts for each of the students to wear while serving customers (and shooting the TV commercial that aired on the local NBC affiliate), and a range of give-aways, such as flat "I Cleaned Up At Deals On Wheels" sponges that would inflate when moistened. Those were Gocco printed in limited edition and given to anyone who spent twenty dollars or more.
